At Central Normal School, we believe that the active and authentic involvement of students in their learning is crucial to engagement and achievement.
Students actively drive WISE within the school.
We believe that students are the heart of Central Normal School and actively seek student voice to make OUR school a great learning environment.
We offer quality teaching and learning by providing diversity and variety throughout our teaching teams. Each team provides stimulating and exciting learning opportunities for students making use of modern learning environments and ICT.
At Central Normal School classrooms are colourful, organised and reflect children’s learning.

Central Normal School is a vibrant learning environment where we encourage whanau to share all learning with their tamariki. There are regular events that enable students to demonstrate their increasing understanding across all curriculum areas.
The name of this peak is after the nesting place of Titi, or mutton birds as they are known. Whare= house: Titi= mutton birds. Titi as we know burrow into the ground and this was a place where Titi used to breed.

Kia Ora! We are Catherine Pallesen, Mark Riley and Rachel Mason – 3 out of the 6 teachers in Whārite Team. After an awesome year of collaborative teaching and learning last year, and the incredibly successful introduction of ‘learning through play’, we are at it again for 2019 which means we will be teaching together in Rooms 19-22 with new entrant to Year 1 children. We are very excited to continue on our learning through play journey! We each have our strengths, specialties and interests: Miss Pallesen loves anything to do with art and creativity. Mr Riley loves getting outdoors for PE and games, and Miss Mason enjoys diving into reading, with music and movement thrown in the mix. What an adventure this year will be!We are looking forward to meeting our bright and bubbly students along with their families and whānau, so come on in and say hello!
Please feel free to contact us by email too.

Kia ora koutou! My name is Mrs Lesley Blackmore and in 2019 I am teaching a class of energetic, bright and happy Year 2 students. Room 4 will be our home room, but we will also participate in exciting activities across the Wharite Team. Your children will contribute to a learning environment where they can develop and share their kind, caring and helpful attributes as good friends and class colleagues. I am looking forward to another successful year where your children will experience, experiment and grow their confidence while taking control of their own learning.
A few of my personal interests involve horses and riding, fruit and vegetable gardening, art and music, but most of all I enjoy working alongside my husband on our small farm, and spending time with our growing family.

Hi, my name is Raewynne Hill (Whaea Raewynne) and I am one of the teachers in Wharite this year. I can’t wait to get to know all of the new students in Room 1 and get started on an exciting year of learning. I have had the pleasure of working at Central Normal School for a number of years and I am thrilled to be working in the Junior area of the school this year. I strongly believe in developing a Community of Learners where the students and I are partners in our learning journey. I have a strong interest in literacy and love creating pieces of art with my students. Outside of school, I have three children aged 18, 20 and 21. Two are working and one is studying at Christchurch University. My husband is also a teacher, at Milson School. Please feel free to pop in before or after school or contact me through my school email if you have any queries. I hope you all had a fabulous time with your families over the holidays. I am looking forward to a great term of learning in Room 1 this year.

I'm really excited to be back again in Room 2 with year 2's in my 7th year teaching at this fantastic school! I have spent time in Maharahara as well as my first two years teaching at a small country school. My teaching passions are the arts (particularly music), PE and writing. My passions outside of school mostly involve around being outside - playing soccer, running and getting out amongst nature. I like playing the guitar and spending time relaxing at my house out in the country too. We currently have 7 calves running around, keeping very well behaved. This year is a particularly exciting year for me, as I will be getting married in April. My name will change to Emma Lees and so the children can call me "Mrs Lees" from term 2. But I will still respond to Miss Boyack or any combination of the two while we all adjust! I can't wait to meet you all and share in your child's learning journey this year.

Kia ora, this year I am working in the capacity of .6 CRT. I will be releasing the teachers across the Wharite, Maharahara and Matanginui teams. My focus will be the visual arts, arts and crafts using repurposed materials. I look forward to sharing in the students learning journeys, their strengths and interests, and their enthusiasm for learning. In my spare time I enjoy tramping, gardening, biking and the visual arts.
