Team Maharahara Weave

The first syllable ma in this name is a shortened version of the word “manga,” meaning stream. In some places in Rangitane and other related communities we find this word shortened (eg Makoura = manga koura; maharakeke = manga harakeke;) Maharahara is one such name. It refers to the many streams that flow down from this peak. (Harahara = meaning multitude.)

Teaching Team: Maharahara
Years: Year 3 and 4
Team Leader: Matt Costley

Team MaharaharaMaharahara is the middle school team at Central Normal School. We consist of students in years 3-4. This year we are lucky to have 4 amazing teachers working collaboratively to ensure that we meet the needs of every student in our team. Our classrooms are open plan and students are encouraged to manage their own learning with support from their teachers to become more independent and self directed learners. Please feel free to come and speak to any teachers at any time regarding your child's learning.

Kia ora koutou, I’m Matua Matt and I am really excited to be joining the teaching team in Maharahara. I have previously taught at Takaro School and Whakarongo School. I am passionate about seeing children excited to come to school and being motivated to learn. I have particular interests in Maths, Reading, music and sport of any kind. I was born and bred in Palmy and returned to live here after many years living in the UK. I am married to Kate and we have four children aged 6-13 plus a dog. I look forward to meeting all of the whānau here at Central Normal School.

Talofa! I am lucky to be teaching in Maharahara again, in 2019! I am excited to work with a new bunch of fabulous kids to guide them through this year of their learning journey. I am passionate about teaching, particularly visual arts and maths. Family is really important to me. I am a step-mum of 2, and I live with my partner, Trev, and our crazy dog, Rogue. I absolutely LOVE dogs! I also really enjoy reading, being creative and getting out into the great outdoors. Please feel free to come in and say hi!

Kia ora whānau! This will be my third year teaching in Maharahara. I am really excited to see all of our awesome tamariki back after the long break! I am also very excited to meet all of the new students that will be joining Maharahara this year. My passions are PE, Rugby, Te Reo Māori and Maths! Home for me is the mighty King Country, where I grew up in the small town of Taumarunui. Whanau is very important to me. I have 8 nieces and nephews who I love spending time with and are the reason I became a teacher. My door is always open so please feel free to stop in after school for a chat or contact me if you have any concerns or questions regarding your child.

Kia Ora! My name is Whaea Emma and I am really excited to join the Maharahara Team for 2019. For the last 7 years, I have been teaching in Levin and I can’t wait to contribute to the Central Normal community. I have a keen interest in music, (particularly singing) and I love getting involved in Science! Conservation and New Zealand wildlife are two other areas that I am passionate about. Outside of school I enjoy spending time with my young family. I’m looking forward to meeting the whānau and tamariki in Pod 6 and working alongside the passionate and collaborative staff at Central Normal School. Please feel free to drop by our pod if you would like to chat or have any questions or concerns regarding your child.
