Maharahara
The first syllable ma in this name is a shortened version of the word “manga,” meaning stream. In some places in Rangitane and other related communities we find this word shortened (eg Makoura = manga koura; maharakeke = manga harakeke;) Maharahara is one such name. It refers to the many streams that flow down from this peak. (Harahara = meaning multitude.)

Teaching Team: Maharahara
Years: Year 3 and 4
Team Leader: Elly Warnock

Team MaharaharaMaharahara is the middle school team at Central Normal School. We consist of students in years 3-4. This year we are lucky to have 4 amazing teachers working collaboratively to ensure that we meet the needs of every student in our team. Our classrooms are open plan and students are encouraged to manage their own learning with support from their teachers to become more independent and self directed learners. Please feel free to come and speak to any teachers at any time regarding your child's learning.

Talofa! I am lucky to be teaching in Maharahara again, in 2018! I am excited to work with a new bunch of fabulous kids to guide them through this year of their learning journey. I know we will have a fun, educational and overall fantastic year in the pod! I am passionate about teaching, particularly visual arts and maths. Family is really important to me. I am a step-mum of 2, and I live with my partner, Trev, and our crazy dog, Rogue. I absolutely LOVE dogs! I also really enjoy reading, being creative and getting out into the great outdoors. Please feel free to come in and say hi!

Kia ora whanau! This will be my second year teaching in Maharahara. I am really excited to see all of our awesome tamariki back after the long break! I am also very excited to meet all of the new students that will be joining Maharahara this year. My passions are PE, Rugby and Te Reo Māori. These are also the subjects that I will be leading within our awesome team. Home for me is the mighty King Country, where I grew up in the small town of Taumarunui. Whanau is very important to me. I am a step-dad to two beautiful twins and I live with my partner who is also a teacher, and we both really enjoy working with kids. My door is always open so please feel free to stop in after school for a chat or contact me if you have any concerns or questions regarding your child.

Hine Rokosuka

Kia Ora! My name is Hine Rokosuka, (Whaea Hine), and am excited to be working at Central Normal School in Maharahara. I am the teacher in Pod 8 and feel extremely privileged to be working within a great team of teachers and students. I am married with 3 children and currently live in Bulls. I was previously a teacher in Levin and had been working at Fairfield School for approximately 13 years. During that time I was able to teach across the school ranging from new entrants to year 8 students. I enjoy teaching across the curriculum and am excited about the changes in education and how I can implement those changes within my teaching style and classroom. I look forward to meeting all whanau and getting to your children. Please come in to Pod 8 for a chat or catch up if you have any queries.
