Thought for the month

We have been pleased to welcome Luse, Dakoda, Alec, Aimee, Courtney, Paris, Tylah, Keanu, Tamara, Renee, Darrian, Cora and Taryn. We know that you will enjoy your learning and Central Normal. We were saddened to hear that new entrant Erykah York is far from well and in Christchurch hospital.  Our warmest thoughts and best wishes are with Erykah and her family.

FOR YOUR KNOWLEDGE, INFORMATION, AND SOME REMINDERS

REMEMBER SCHOOL CLOSES AT 12.30 ON WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 3RD

Staffing:

There is further staffing news that has caused us all some sadness, but there is good news too!  It is great to know that Professor Tai Black, and Whaea Shelley are back safe and well in New Zealand.  Tai will need to take things quietly for a time but we are pleased to hear that he is making good progress.  Whaea Shelley returns to work at CNS next week.  It will be great to have her back.

We were sad to hear of the passing of Michael Phillips mother last week.  Michael was chairperson of the Board some years ago and his wife Karen, a Teacher Aide on staff is well known to nearly all.  Our warmest thoughts have been with the family.

The Board of Trustees accepted with regret the resignation of Pa Ronald Nolan (teacher of room 14) at its August meeting.  Ronald has been a teacher in the bilingual team, Te Arawaru for the last 4 ½ years.  Ronald has been a key member in the team and a great friend to all; the staff and children in the school.  He will be greatly missed.  Ronald, his wife Lindy and the children leave for Dubai next week to teach, and will be away from NZ for a year, maybe two.  We wish them all well.

Implications for staffing:  Whaea Shelley Black will teach the seniors in room 14 for the remainder of the year, and Whaea Jacqui - May Allison will remain with room 15 and see their programme successfully through to the end of the year.

The current area of study

The current study ‘To Market to Market!’  is coming close to an end.  The children are enjoying their work and look forward to ‘Market Day’ when they will get to use their school made ‘eftpos cards’.

School sports teams:

Well done again to the boys and girls taking part in school sports teams.  The weather hasn’t been at all helpful as we know.  Please continue to support developing skills and fair play at all times.

A number of children have been selected for various Manawatu Representative teams.

Congratulations to Arjuna Walker U11 Rugby

Te Ariki Stevenson U11 Basketball

David Peck U11 Hockey Development Team

Jenna Bailey & Bailey Fitchett U11 Girls Hockey.

The Virtues Project at our school:

Our new virtue is creativity.

Creativity is the power of imagination.  It is a way to develop special talents.  It is being able to see things in new or different ways.  Creativity is using your imagination to bring something new in to the world.

An affirmation about creativity:  I am creative. I have special gifts and am keen to develop them.  I use my imagination.  I am open to inspiration.  I am happy to be my self.

Behaviour – manners and respect in and about the school

During the past week or two there has been an increase in the number of our children who have been displaying behaviours that do not belong in a ‘safe and happy’ school.  Arguments, some bullying, back chatting and the use of language not at all appropriate in the school environment is of concern.  We would encourage you to support us by talking with your child/ren about appropriate ways of dealing with conflicts or any difficulties they may have.  Be assured that staff will continue to support all children with any issues, and that our behaviour Management Policy is being closely adhered to.  Children must talk with staff if any difficulty arises.

The PTA

The PTA is currently underway with the planning of our Gala day, to be held on Sunday November 30th.  11.00a.m. – 2.00 p.m.  There will be a giant ‘white elephant’ sale and all the ‘fun and food of a fair’.  Please give thought to ways that you may be able to help!  More information about this will come out to the parent community before too long.

Some Writing from Room 20

Rain – by Eleanor Y2

When the rain drops drop on the ground I am very quiet.

I like the sound of the drip, drip, drop that’s why I am very quiet.  I hear thunder rattling bumps and thumps, swish, swish, swish bumpity bump as the gate bangs next door.

Rain – by Abigail Y2

I see drops of rain.  Rain on the leaves go swish, swish, swish against the tree.  Some are yellow, and brown.  When it is raining I go outside in the puddles because puddles are fun.

Thought for the month.

From Sir Edmund Hillary

A major challenge for the 21st century will lie in the field of human relations.  Of getting on with each other, accepting that everyone has something to contribute; their thoughts, their ideas, even their money.  If this was to happen, the world would be a more honest and happier place than it is now.

This statement is worthy of adults and children alike giving thought to!
