Dear Parents and Caregivers,                                                                30 April, 2009.

Welcome to Term 2, 2009.  It has been another busy start to the term with lovely warm days and lots of teaching and learning already taking place.  It’s lovely to see all the happy and refreshed faces back at school after the break.

I am very proud of the children and their friendly personalities.  They enjoy the Jump Jam sessions we hold in the hall each day very much. This makes a huge impact on their daily fitness as well as being lots of fun.

We have been delighted to welcome the following children to Central Normal School this week.  Hemi, Kaleb, Lockie, Amoe, Jon-Duncan, Akaina, Nikolas, Jessica, Mason, Reuben, Abdulrahim and Brooklyn

Sign Language Week 4 – 10th May

Did you know this is the 3rd official language of our curriculum and will be promoted within the school next week?

This Term’s Learning:

Virtue – Responsibility

Each term we focus on one of the major virtues. This term Responsibility is our theme. It means that others can depend on you.  It is doing something well and to the best of your ability and being accountable for doing it.

Key Competency

This term we will be promoting “Thinking”.  Each team will incorporate this in their class teaching. Our major theme for this term is a Science Inquiry around the living world.  Each teams topic is:

            Wharite:            Who lives Where? (minibeasts/insects)

            Maharahara:     Thinking Today for Tomorrow!

            Matanginui:       What’s Buggin’ You?

Te Arawaru:     The above units with the Maori perspective integrated.

P.T.A. AGM Tuesday 5th May at 7.00 p.m. in the staffroom.

Please come along and join in.  No pressure to do any jobs but it would be fantastic if we could have a few more parents involved.  We are a friendly (not scary!!) group and it is a great way to get to know some of the other parents and teachers at school and also be part of the school community and in turn help our kids out.

A recent contribution for our Juniors has been the purchase of the new sand pit toys.  Some of the children have contributed to the letter below to thank us.

            Dear P.T.A.

Some information from the Public Health Nurse.

Swine Flu presents as any other seasonal flu.  Remember symptoms are:

Sudden onset of fever, headache, body ache with cough and runny nose developing later.  Children may have gastrointestinal symptoms such as diarrhoea.  If you have any concerns please take your child to your Doctor.

Remember the basic hygiene rules around hand washing, sneezing and coughing and keep your family and friends well. (See the hand washing insert in this newsletter).

Also Dr Shirene will be at our school on 21 May at 9.30 a.m. If you have any health concerns about your child please phone the office to make a time to see her.  This is a free service.

Winter Sports

Numbers of our children will be participating in winter sports teams beginning their seasons this weekend and the following week.  Thank you to the coaches and managers for your input to Hockey, Netball, and Basketball.  A special thank you to the P.T.A. for assistance with the purchase of additional uniforms for the teams.

Please encourage excellent sportsmanship with our children and be great supporters when you are watching and encouraging our teams.

Black Bag Collection

Have you clothes, belts, bags or soft toys that you no longer want? This is the time to have a winter clean out.

The Salvation Army is conducting an experiment with CNS and a school in Hamilton to gather items to send to Madacasgar and to sell in their shop. For every kilo of clothing the school receives 20 cents. If it is successful they plan to gather goods in a large number of schools.

Your child has brought home a plastic bag for any items you no longer want. Would you please return it to school on Monday and the army will pick it up. The bags can be put in the foyer of the hall.

Thanks for your support.
