Dear Parents/Caregivers

Welcome to another busy week.  Our term is flying by. Our focus Virtue this term is Respect and we are delighted that most children are showing this in many ways around the school.

We have had a great swimming season and some amazing progress has been made by many of our keen swimmers.  Thank you Mr Wallace for the great care you take of our pool.  Families who have pool keys are now requested to return these to the school office.

The Big Splash Day – by Tiah Room 16

On Tuesday we had a Big Splash Day. It was so exciting.  All of the activities were so awesome.  There were water slides, games and races.  We were put into four groups.  My favourite part was the water slide.  I slipped and slid really fast.  The hose was swishing everywhere.

We want to remind families of our school hours – often children miss the start of the school day due to lateness.  Please remember the first bell goes at 8.55 a.m. and all children are expected to be in class on the bell.  We do often have children waiting after school too.  Remember to pick up your children promptly or make sure they know where or what they are to do after school each day.  Some children become upset because they are not sure who is collecting them and are left waiting for a considerable time.

I love to visit team assemblies and see wonderful work in classrooms. Our children are very special.  I love their smiles and friendliness. Recently poetry writing has been a focus for some classes. Here are two examples of the children’s writing.

Sense Poem by Jarrod Room 10

I can taste the soft supple bread. The seeded red tomato. The dripping melted cheese.

The toasted bacon. The cold crunchy lettuce. Seeing a thick sandwich waiting to be eaten, smelling layers of food. Feeling softness as I pick it up. Hearing a crunch as I bite into it. Tasting the variety of foods and loving it.

What is a TreeIhaka Room 10

What is a tree?  A motel for living creatures.  It is a big umbrella to keep us breathing. It is a shade for dogs to sleep there, for cat’s to climb – That’s a tree.

We also love to share all of our writing in our school.  Our children are special writers.

The Butterfly Hatches – by Nomuna Room 5

In February Mrs Scott got lots of caterpillars and one swan plant.  There was one big Caterpillar and lots of little ones.  Savana took the little ones home because they kept trying to escape.  After a dew days it turned into a chrysalis.  When it was turning into a chrysalis it looked like a capital J or a hanging bat.  For ten days it was green and on Friday 27 February it turned black and we could see the wings of the monarch butterfly.  On the same day at lunch time the chrysalis hatched.  One wing was floppy.  It was frozen for a while and then it started to flap it’s wings – it was beautiful! I wish I was a butterfly.

We enjoy hearing at assembly about how sports teams are performing. Here is one example of our sports reports, and thank you to all the adults who support our teams.

Summer Hockey CNS Team Black – by Thomas R10

On Wednesday we played against another school.  It was a disappointing game because we lost.  We lost  3 – 0.  Luckily Zack saved some amazing goals.  The whole team persevered and kept trying right up to the end.  The coach says we have a few things to work on!

Health Concerns

Have you been checking your children for headlice – we are aware that this is a huge problem in some classrooms and remind parents to check their child/ren regularly and treat as necessary.  Remember brisk brushing of the hair when children arrive home from school assists with keeping them headlice ‘free’. Often brushing backwards is successful. We have a new supply of organic shampoo, gel and spray available from the school office.  We like you, get very frustrated with this problem.

We also have numbers of children who have suffered from a nasty tummy bug lately.  Remember to keep children home for at least 24 hours after they have ceased vomiting/diarrhoea. Also remind your children about hand washing after toileting.

BBQ Sausage & Drink Lunch – on April 8th   Money raised will help support the choir. (We will not have American hotdogs or pies on April 8th.)
