Central Normal School Kids got in behind the Westpac Trust Rescue Helicopter Appeal.  On Friday21st May, the Student Council organised a 'Wacky Hair or Hat Day' to help raise funds for the Westpac Trust Rescue helicopter.  Families donated a gold coin to support this worthwhile appeal and sent children to school sporting wacky hair styles or wearing wacky hats.  We as a school community raised $294.00 - so well done everyone!!!  Nathan (Student Council Chairperson) and Councillor Nikita had the pleasure of depositing the money at the Westpac Bank.

A big thank you to parents for their support with this fun day.

Dear Parents & Caregivers,

We have had some very wet days this week.  The weather has disrupted our plans for the middle and junior X Country. As always there has been lots of learning happening.  Our children very much enjoyed the visit this morning from Ronald McDonald. They have all been given a pedometer to measure their steps for fitness.  They have also been given a website and password to log into if they want to record their fitness at home.

Colds & Flu

If your child is unwell please keep him/her at home and let the school office know.   Please phone or text us before 9 a.m. if possible. We do not want the ‘bugs’ spread to our staff and other children.

P.T.A.

The P.T.A. recently held their Annual meeting.  The next meeting will be held on Tuesday 1st June at 7.00p.m. in the staffroom.  Do come and support this small committee with your ideas for fundraising for the school.  It is important that we have more parent support for this fun committee. Meetings are generally over in an hour once a month.

Children’s Health We are aware that some children are suffering with School Sores (Impetigo). They may start as a cut, scratch or insect bite infected by scratching, or may start as small red spots which quickly become blisters.  Sores become puss filled and crusted.  They are most often on hands, face and scalp. Parents need to take their child to a doctor to obtain antibiotics to treat this. Left untreated this infection can cause serious illness.

Headlice

This is another reminder to keep checking and treating your child/ren for this problem.  Remember that if your child has long hair it should be tied back while at school to help prevent the spread of headlice.  We do sell shampoo, jel and spray at cost price available from the school office.  Please support us with this problem.

A Big Thank You to AEC

We appreciate the time and generosity of Ashhurst

Engineering  for their help with fixing our indoor netball

poles so that the children are able to use them.

They have also made and supplied the poles

for some new security lights which will be installed

on our buildings to make it safer for people using

our school after dark.

Some Writing from Camp by Josh Room 1

On Wednesday the 19th May Rooms 1, 10 and 11 went to camp at El Rancho in Waikanae.  We got to do a lot of fun activities like rifles, rock wall climbing, dinghies, go karts and a super fun water slide plus a flying fox.  The flying Fox went over the pond zooming at a million miles per hour and the dinghies were under you.  With rifles you got to load the air rifle with a small pallet and turned the safety off and shoot the rifle at the end.  If you hit the target you got to take the target home.  We all had a great time on camp and even though at times the weather was pretty cold.  The food was actually yummy which sort of surprised me.  My favourite part of camp would be the water slide because I went down really, really fast.  The beds at camp were really uncomfortable and sleeping with loads of people in the cabin meant I hardly got any sleep.  We all had a really great time and even though we were all exhausted I would definitely do it again.  The parents and teachers who came on camp were awesome.

Parking on Yellow Lines and Double Parking

We would really like parent support about sensible and legal parking outside the various school gates when dropping off and picking up children.  If you cannot find a legal park PLEASE seek one a little further away and walk to the gate.  This may take a few minutes but for the safety of our children we need to improve the behaviour of our parents & caregivers rather than report a tragedy outside our school gate!

Ordering Lunches on Thursdays

Each Thursday thanks to the help of a very willing parent children may order lunch.

All orders must be into the office by 3.30p.m. on Wednesdays

Please note For June          Hot Dog or Pie Lunches will be held on 3rd, 10th and 17th.

BBQ Sausage or Cheese Burger Lunch will next be held on Thursday 24th June

Red Socks Day:  Friday 2nd July 2010

Wear the socks of a Leader’

We would like to invite you in joining us celebrate Red Socks Day on Friday 2nd July.  This day provides a fun, visual opportunity for students to learn about leadership and the difference a great leader makes.  Sir Peter Blake continues to inspire and motivate students to step up in a way that will reflect the vision and values of our school and community.

To get in behind and be involved in this day, we would love you  to purchase a pair of red socks (good quality) or a lapel pin from our school office for a donation of $2.00 for any member of your family.  If you wish to view the socks or lapel pin first, please come in to see them at the school office.

We would love to see our community get in behind this special day!! All proceeds go to ‘The Sir Peter Blake Trust’ – Leadership in action.  This is part of Leadership Week (25th June – 2nd July).

Young Leaders Day

On Tuesday 25th May, a group of twelve CNS Young Leaders attended the 10th National Young Leaders Day at the Regent Theatre here in Palmerston North along with one thousand, five hundred others.

The Young Leaders heard five amazing speakers talking about ‘What makes a great leader’.  Some of the speakers talked about personal experiences that had been life changing for them or about role models of true leadership they had in their lives.

Our Young Leaders came away with lots to think about and many powerful quotes to remember.

The behaviour of our young leaders was outstanding and affirmed our student’s choice in selecting these wonderful ambassadors for our school.

Jan Thomas.
