CENTRAL NORMAL SCHOOL

Kia ora koutou.  Nau mai haere mai.

Dear Parents,

With just one week and one day to go until the end of term 2, we are aware that numbers of children are struggling with coughs, colds, tiredness and other sickness.  Please keep your children home if they appear at all unwell.  This helps protect other children and adults from catching the bugs!

I am delighted to be able to tell you about lots of busy and happy times your children are having both in school and at weekend sports.

Mrs Oliver’s Class of the week:

Congratulations to:

Room 20 for being great “Fire Wise” Learners

Room 7:  For being great learners about Space

Sports News:

Over the last few weekends I have been able to spend some time at the Saturday morning netball and hockey.  I am very impressed with the sportsman ship and skills that the children are displaying during their games.  Thank you so much to the parent supporters and the coaches for taking the time to encourage and teach these skills to the children. Perhaps we have an up and coming Silver Fern or Black Stick learning their basic skills!

A New All Black

Did you know Aaron Cruden was a pupil at Central Normal School and is now in the All Blacks Rugby Team?  We are very proud of you Aaron!

Disco Fundraiser

A special thank you to the P.T.A. and staff for organising the recent Disco – it was a fun time for everyone and raised almost $800 for the P.T.A.

Countdown Supermarket

A big thank you to our local supermarket.  They have agreed to help with donations of ingredients for our Garden to Table Programme which middle school classes have been participating in.  This donation will be a great help to us with some of the costs incurred when running this very successful programme.

Term Dates:

A reminder that the last day of Term 2 is Friday July 2nd.

Term 3 commences Monday July 19th and ends Friday 24th September

Term 4 commences Monday October 11th and ends Friday 17th December.

Survey/Consultation

Thank you so much to the huge number of parents who have taken the time to complete the survey we sent home last week.  Your comments and suggestions are taken seriously when decisions are being made by the Board. Your input to the various sections is extremely important so have your say! The last day for replies is tomorrow Friday 25th.  Remember there is a lucky draw for those who have returned their survey.

Lost Property

We will display the lost property tomorrow Friday and next Friday 2nd July if the days are dry.  We would love for you to come in and have a look at the huge selection of clothing etc we have in our boxes.

Staffing:

We will welcome back Mrs Shona Eccles at the beginning of next term.  Shona has been on sabbatical with her husband for term 2.  They have had an amazing trip to Italy, England, Scotland and France. We will be saying goodbye to Sarah Best (Shona’s replacement for Term 2) Thank you Sarah for your excellent work with groups of our children.

We will welcome Jenni Edmonds to Room 12, our new new entrant class at the beginning of next term.  Jenni will be with us for the remainder of 2010.

Head Lice

We are becoming very concerned that some parents are not prepared to treat their children for headlice.  This problem is spread very quickly through classrooms at this time of the year if children go untreated.  It is not fair to the parents who do treat their children to have them re-infested due to the lack of care in other families.  If we become aware of children with infestations we may request that our health nurse Margaret Jackson do a home visit to remind them of their responsibilities and suggest treatments!

Old Cell Phones

We will have a special box in our office to collect any old cell phones.  These are handed on to an organisation to raise money for Star Ship Hospital.

Red Sock Day

We had a number of orders for this fun day which is to be celebrated on Friday 2nd July.  Unfortunately due to the high demand for the red socks we are unable to obtain any for our orders.  Refunds are available from the school office.  We have decided to have a ‘Red Day’ and encourage all children to wear something red to school next Friday 2nd July.

Water Slide – By Ebeney

The Steps – Every step was like 100 needles pounding at my feet. My heart is pounding. My feet on the slippery black cloak. Swish.  I pass through the frozen ice water.  With water in my hair.  I let out a scream as I’m flung into a frozen ice popsicle.  Teeth rattling with coldness.  Frozen limbs but still wanting to go on again.  I repeat the steps.  Trying not to give up.  Finding my equipment.  Walking down now.  I feel like a dead weight.  As I run for freedom I just can’t wait for next camp to come.

Flying Fox by Mason

Each step I take fear runs right through my body.  Thinking its just that long metal rope holding me there.  I go down the long rope looking at the trees.  I zoom past them they looked like you are at the movies with a pair of 3D glasses on.  Wind hits me turning me round my heart pounds more.  Noise yelling.  I pull my head in thud I hit the rubber.
