Dear Parents/Caregivers,

E ng` m`t`waka huri no ate motu, piki mai kake mai r`

A special welcome to Term 3.

We loved seeing all of our children return to school so happy and positive.

We have a very exciting term planned, as well as it being a very important term for children’s learning.

A big welcome to all of our new pupils this term. We hope you enjoy being at Central Normal School with us.

We also welcome Miss Jenni Edmonds who is our new teacher in Room 12. Jenni has come to us from Coley Street School in Foxton. She is teaching our new, New Entrant class which at the moment has 4 children but we know the numbers will grow very quickly.

Our biggest event this term is our Regent Theatre Concert on Thursday 9 September. We will keep you posted about what is happening but we hope you put a circle around 9th September on your calendar. We introduced the concert to the children in assembly this week so you might like to ask them what the theme is for their team.

Consultation:

Wow….we were blown away with all of the responses we got last term to our questionnaire. Thank you so much for all of your replies. We will feed these back to you over the next few newsletters.

Congratulations to Cathy and Jodi, who were the winners of our consultation lucky draw. Some comments:

  • We think CNS does a wonderful job here.
  • Would be good to know key dates/events a bit more in advance.

Board of Trustees News

This week the Board of Trustees met for July. I am so thrilled with our new Board. I want you to know they are such a hard working and professional group who make good decisions based on what is best for our children. One of our topics for this week’s meeting was our whole Education Outside The Classroom programme. We read through all of your ideas. It seems there is overwhelming support to keep a camp for our senior pupils.

Here are a few comments:

·        Day Tramp or walk to a local park (Year 1/2)

·        Day excursions – museum, parks, tramps, farms, local businesses (Year 3/4)

·        The camp this year at El Rancho was most enjoyable.  There were activities that our child wouldn’t normally do at home.  He talked about it for days! (Year5/6)

Our next step is to draft a plan for a programme that meets the needs of all age groups and that builds on each set of experiences. We will send this draft out to you when we have it developed (in August).

Mrs Olivers Class of the week for June 29th

Room 17 For a whole two terms of amazing learning.  I am very proud of you!

Room 22 For being amazing learners.  I am very proud of you.

Newsletters:

Your feedback told us that you generally found these to be very useful. All but one or two people appreciate the information and that they keep you in touch with us. Some suggestions you also made we have already picked up on. We will keep including dates of term events so we give you more notice and you can plan around these .

We also have had several of you mention the possibility of emailing them to you. We are talking to our technicians about this but in the meantime our newsletters are also put onto our website. (minus the photos).  They usually appear the day after they are sent home.

Student Achievement and Reports:

We will be sending home a report to you to show you where your child’s learning is at . We will also send an explanation about these as they are a new report form based around National Standards.  The reports will come home on 12th August.

Parent /Teacher/ Child Conferences and Sharing Books: The week after reports come home to you we will be holding our very important conferences with you. Part of this is to share with you your child’s Sharing Book. These are such a wonderful part of our learning at Central Normal School and you told us how important they were to you. Talking of Sharing Books here is some of the feedback you gave us about them.

·        The Sharing books are one of the loveliest gifts CNS gives our family.  Thank you

·        Our child loves to bring home the Sharing Book and share it with the rest of the family.

Of course you are very welcome at any time of the year to make an appointment to come and talk with your child’s teacher about their learning.
