Wacky Hair/Hat Day Friday
21st May
Wacky Hair Day - On Friday
21st May, we are having a Wacky Hair Day at school. This is to help raise
funds for the Westpac Trust Helicopter. We would love it if our school
community could get in behind this extremely worthwhile appeal by sending your
child to school with a wacky hair style (or hat) and a gold coin
donation. All money needs to go to the school office and will be passed
on to the Westpac Bank. Because of our school commitment to this appeal,
we have also gone into the draw for a possible flyover or visit from the air
force!!
Our Student Council have
organised this day by making posters etc and will be giving out spot prizes on
the day!
Pedestrian Crossings
We are
once again reminding parents to use the crossings when coming to or from
school. We do not want to have a tragedy
outside our school, please support us and listen to the patrol children’s
instructions before crossing the busy roads.

Head Lice
Once
again we remind parents to keep checking their children for lice and nits. In fairness to all families it is important
that everyone does their best to keep this problem to a minimum. We have some electronic combs which we will
lend to you for a deposit of $5.00. We
also have shampoo and spray available at cost price.

By the time
this newsletter reaches you the Board of Trustees elections will certainly be
over and the make-up of the new Board may well be known.
I would like
to take this opportunity to thank the out going board members for the work they
have put in to continue the excellent governance and management of our school.
A special thank you to Gordon Boyd and Andrew Mitchell who will not be standing

As a board
we feel the school has a very strong leadership group
that is working to develop programmes to enhance our children’s education and
to provide leadership and professional development for all teachers in our
school.
The board is
very pleased to see the school wide introduction of Wise Kids at CNS we feel this will enhance and build on the great
culture we already have at CNS.
School camps
are coming fast and this is a great opportunity for all our children to
experience the outdoors away from the classroom. This is an enormous
activity and requires comprehensive planning and dedication from our teachers
for this to happen.
Thank you to
all the staff, parents and caregivers who give up time to work, plan and attend
camp, this is greatly appreciated.
Thank you
again to the BOT, the staff of CNS and to the school community for the support
of our children’s learning.
Kind regards

Sportsmanship
What
a busy start to the winter sporting season we have had so far. It is great to see so many parents supporting
their children and encouraging them in a positive manner.

These
behaviours are expected not only on the weekends but also at school and at
interschool events. This also applies to parents and families.
We
acknowledge that we, as teachers, are not experts at organising different
events but we do the very best that we can for the children. During organised school sports events, we
would appreciate parents and families respecting the boundaries that need to be
put in place to make a successful event. With your support we can provide
successful outcomes for all children who participate in any sporting event at
ANZAC Studies from Room 9
As part of our ANZAC Unit, Ben paid a visit to Room 9 on Monday 26th April, to share his experiences with the pupils. He brought in his pack and some 'rat packs' (ration packs which he shared with the pupils), his medals from overseas duties and his grandfathers medals from WW1. The pupils of Room 9 thoroughly enjoyed his real-life stories, the opportunity to see and touch army gear and all the cool little pressies he left us with. We (Room 9) would like to take this opportunity to say a BIG thank-you to Ben for taking the time to visit us, share his experiences and knowledge and to answer all our questions
“Creek” By Maia
The brown rectangle door opens, we all flash our heads to the door. A tall camouflaged man walks in with a grin, his eyes beaming like two moons in the night sky, a huge rat pack clinging on to his back. Mrs K asks us to come sit on the mat. 10 minutes pass I’m sitting here gazing in the sun as if there was nothing important going on just an army soldier in my class. Ben (the soldier) asks me to stand he pulls out a green flat box, I quiver as if I was a cat in the cold, he slaps on some face paint, green and black with a bit of grey. I look into the mirror and laugh. I look disgustingly ugly, I say to myself. I sigh, What an experience!.
