A message from the Student Council

On Friday the 27th August, the Central School Student Council organized activities to help raise funds for Daffodil Day.  A group of Young Leaders visited each classroom to see which classroom had created the best 'Yellow" display.  Points were given for a selected group of criteria and we are thrilled to be able to award the winning voucher of 10 extra minutes at a playtime or lunchtime to Room 8!  Spot prizes were also given to children who had made a real effort to dress up in the theme of 'yellow' or 'daffodil'.

On Monday two of our Young Leaders assisted me in depositing $567.10 at the National Bank this was the total raised for Daffodil Day.

On behalf of the CNS Young Leaders, I would like to say a huge thank you to the staff of CNS and to the whanau and children of CNS for getting in behind this worthy fundraiser!   What an amazing team we are!!

Parent Consultation

Thank you so much to everyone who has responded this term to our many pieces of paper asking you for your feedback.  A summary of all the consultation is with this newsletter.  Here are the answers to some of the specific questions you asked.

Recommend Camp David

This is a Camp in the Hawkes Bay.  Unfortunately it is no longer available for schools to use that is why we used El Rancho.

Kapa Haka

We are offering Kapa Haka to Year 4 – 6 mainstream children after our Regent Theatre Production – through Term 4.

Headlice

We don’t like them any more than you!! When we are aware of them we notify all parents of children in the class – and often individual families.  We need everyone’s support in getting rid of them.  It is so frustrating for us too. Remember we offer shampoo, gel, and spray at cost price and you may also wish to borrow an electronic comb for a week to help treat this problem.

Homework

As a school at the moment we do not set formal Home Work in the form of worksheets.  We do expect children to keep up with the daily news, reading, spelling and tables.

Te Arawaru Reports

National Standards around Te Marautanga o Aotearoa are still being developed.  Once we have these we will be developing a new report for Te Arawaru.  This is still a few months away.

Lucky Draw for Maori Consultation

Congratulations to Juanita.  Juanita won a $30 Countdown Voucher.  Thank you to everyone who took the time to fill in the questionnaire.

Childrens Exercise Books

It is very disappointing that a number of families have still not paid for their children’s exercise books including sharing books.  Could you please pay these promptly.

Winter Sports

As we come to the end of a number of winter sports we want to thank all coaches and parents for their assistance and support.  The commitment that numbers of parents make with practice and also attending games is to be commended.  Our children would not be able to participate without your willingness to help.

Uniforms: Please return all sports uniforms this week (provided your sport is finished) to enable us to check them off our system.  Thank you

A note from the Dental Clinic

Our time is limited and we want to get all the children we have seen completed.  It is important that outstanding Treatment Advice and Enrolment Forms are returned urgently.  We cannot treat your child without these.  If you have mislaid the form and you need a replacement form please call into the clinic or ring 358 7258.  Thank you  for your co-operation.  Sharon & Marian.

Bible in Schools

The families of children who participate in this programme will be sent a letter to request a contribution/donation to the Manawatu Churches Education Council for pamphlets which the children used for their sessions.  We hope you are able to support this request.

Yummy Stickers

Keep on eating the Yummy Apples and collecting the stickers and coupons off the plastic bags.  These help us get free sports gear.  We will be sending the stickers to Auckland at the end of term.

Some Writing about the Zippity Zoo Visit

Zippity Zoo came to Central Normal School and it was spectacular!!  I loved the Guinea Pigs because they were cute like soft little kittens.  Maggie had to feel her way around because she was blind.  The sheep has eyes on the side of his head and he could only look to the side.

Zippity Zoo came to school.  The animals were a goat, sheep, lambs, hen, rooster, rabbit, 4 guinea pigs and kid goats.  The hen laid an egg.  I felt the egg, it was nice and warm.  The goats horns were very hard.  The kid goats and lambs were very cute. The one I liked the most was the big rabbit because it was soft and cute.

Zippity Zoo visited Central Normal School. I think that the Guinea pigs were spectacular.  The goat was fantastic.  The lambs were cool.  The rabbit was funny, the hen and rooster both perfect.  Sheep was incredible.  I like Zippity Zoo.  My favourite animal was the sheep.
