Dear Parents,

E ng` m`t`waka huri no ate motu, piki mai kake mai r`

It was great to see so many parents taking time yesterday to meet with their child’s teacher and discuss their learning.  I’m sure the conferences tonight will be equally well supported

by our families.

School Production at the Regent 9th September, 2010 at 6.30p.m. – Keep this date free ‘Aotearoa Snapshots!!

We are getting very excited about our Regent Theatre concert.  It is not too far away!!

We are expecting that all children will be performing at the concert. Please let your child’s teacher know urgently if your child will not be there.

Tickets for our production are on sale at the Regent on Broadway.  Tickets cost $12.00.  (Children who are participating in the show do not need a ticket)

Lost Property Please come and look!!

We have all the clothing and shoes on display in the meeting room.  This will be available until 3.00p.m. Friday!  Next week this batch of clothing etc will be given to a charity if not collected!

P.T.A. Family Pie Orders

The PTA has been most grateful for the response to this fundraiser.  Thank you and well done everyone.  We have raised over $1500.00 for games for wet lunch times.

Class Photo Orders

The proofs are on display in your child’s classroom.  Please come in and look at the photo and check that your child’s name is spelt correctly.  Envelopes are available for ordering.  The cost of a photo is $12.00.  Orders will close on Tuesday 31st August.  Cash only in the envelope please.

Flu & sick children

If your child has flu like symptoms please keep him/her at home.  Sending unwell children to school is unfair to other children and staff.  Flu is very easily spread by coughing and sneezing.  Please encourage your child/ren to wash hands thoroughly also not to cough or sneeze over others!

Children Absent From School

Please remember to ring or text us if your child is not attending school.  We also need a reason ie.  Sick, going to a tangi, etc.  If you just say your child is “not coming in” they are likely to be marked ‘truant’!

Our text number is 0273578156.  We do appreciate your help and support with this and are aware that sometimes the phone is very busy in the mornings.  We would also like to remind you to inform us if you have a new address or phone number.  It is frustrating if we cannot contact you when your child is sick due to an incorrect phone number

Children turning 5 in Term 4 and 2011

We would appreciate some idea of how many children in our area are due to turn 5 during term 4 and in 2011.  This is very important for our planning for next year.  Please come in and bring a birth certificate with you to enrol your child who is due to turn 5.  If you are aware of any neighbours or friends intending to enrol their children at Central Normal Please encourage them to get in touch with us as soon as they are able.

PLEASE REMEMBER TO KEEP CHECKING YOUR CHILD/REN FOR HEADLICE – WE DO NOT LIKE HEADLICE AT SCHOOL!

Exercise Books/Stationery

We are starting to think about ordering all of the exercise books for next year.  We had so much positive feedback about how we organised it this year – so we would love to do this again next year.  Sadly – we may not do this again.  We have been let down by some parents not paying for their child’s exercise books. Another invoice will be sent out before the end of term. We will make a final decision at the beginning of next term about the stationery for 2011.

School Donation

We have recently sent home reminders for outstanding school donations.  Thank you so much to the families who have responded favourably to this request for payment of the school donation.

Hotdog/Pie Lunches

Thank you to the families who support this lunch treat.  We are managing to make a small profit and this will assist with the cost of the all weather cricket wicket which will be installed in our playground before the summer season.  We also helped along with the PTA to fund the track suits for our young leaders and other representatives of the school.  The Mathex Team looked great at the recent competitions.  See the photo on the front cover of this newsletter.

Wharite is learning about Down on the Farm

Tatyana Room 19 Year 2 wrote this wonderful story about Pukekos

Once upon a time there was a pukeko.  It was a cheeky pukeko because it went to a children’s school, and it went into the classroom. The children looked at the pukeko it got a very big fright and the teacher got a fright too. Then the pukeko made the kids go in the pond with him.  Were they good swimmers “No” they were not good swimmers.  The Principal tried to save them but they turned into pukekos.  The Principal had 100 pukekos in the school.
