Staffing News

It is with regret that the Board of Trustees has accepted the resignation of our Deputy Principal Catherine Cameron.  Catherine has been a great staff member and support to children and the community of Central Normal for the last 10 years and will be greatly missed when she finishes at the end of Term 4.

The Board is presently working to find a replacement Deputy Principal to commence at Central at the beginning of the school year 2010.

Healthy School Food Choices

Parents are reminded that children are able to order healthy food lunches daily from the Bakers Bakery.  The price list is available from the office and the food is delivered to school by 12.30 daily.

Wednesday Lunches are a school run fundraiser.  This includes a choice of a heart tick mince pie and/or an American hotdog (frankfurter) in a steamed bread roll with a choice of sauce.  We also have an option on Wednesdays for a fruit drink which is low in sugar.

Assistance with serving lunches on Wednesdays.  We would love to hear from another parent or grandparent who would like to assist with serving the lunches on Wednesdays.  Please let the school office know if you are able to help.

Safely Picking Up Your Children After School.

We have some concerns about some children waiting for up to an hour to be collected from school.  If you know you are going to be late to pick up your child PLEASE phone the school office and let us know – 5 minutes seems a long time for some children who are left waiting. If we know you are going to be late we can arrange that they wait safely at the office. All children still waiting after 10 minutes are asked to wait at the office.

Parking/Double Parking on Aroha Street

Please be aware we have informed the traffic wardens to ticket people who double park and/or park on the yellow lines outside school.  We ask parents not to break the traffic laws around the school and PLEASE  be aware of child safety at all times.

Assistance with School Patrols

We are looking for a kind parent who could supervise the patrol children on Beresford Street each Wednesday afternoon from about 2.55 to 3.10p.m.  Please call into the school office and let Mrs Cameron know if you are able to assist us.

Board of Trustees Meeting

The next meeting of the Board of Trustees will be in the meeting room on Wednesday next 16th September at 7.30 p.m. All Welcome.

Some children’s writing for Daffodil Day from Room 5

Yellow, Yellow, Yellow On Daffodil Day

Daffodil Day was so yellow!  All the classes in Central Normal had to get an idea for Daffodil day.  Room 5 made paper Daffodil hats.  I’m very sure that this years Daffodil Day was the best yet!  Also the whole school was in the hall!  The whole school looked like a garden!  In the hall there were judges.  Room 5 didn’t win any prizes but its ok.

Help the Cancer Society

As you all know August has a very special day in the month.  It is called Daffodil Day.  Daffodil Day is about raising lots of money for the Cancer Society.  The day before Daffodil Day Fabulous 5 made bright yellow paper daffodil hats with a fabulous teacher named Mrs White.  We made the hats of white cardboard and yellow paper and cupcake cups which you put cake mixture in.  On the actual day room 5 walked all in yellow to the hall and found a big humungous field of bright yellow daffodils.  This daffodil day was amazing and I can’t wait to raise more money.

Mathex

To end Maths Week on a high note the Year 5 and 6s took part in a Mathex competition. The teachers added a team. Each team had to answer 20 questions in 30 minutes and had to run the answer up to the markers who only gave a yes or no answer. Teams could pass if they got stuck! The winning Year 5 team was from Room 10 and in Year 6 from Room 9. Have fun with maths.
