Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Another very busy week for children staff and parents at Central Normal School.  Thank you so much to the families who volunteer for various trips etc.  Your support is appreciated.

We have been delighted to welcome Amber, Wiremu, Jonathan, Hayley, Maahaki and Brieana to our school.  We know you will enjoy being part of our school family.

            Principal’s Award

            Congratulations to Room 1

I love all your Turtle Stories and the way you care for your new class member.

Trampathon

It was a little damp but the weather was kind and the children had a great day walking to the esplanade.  Now we need the money raised, collected and returned to the school office as soon as you are able.  The children want to watch their thermometer rise quickly.

Hands Up for Learning

Last Friday (International Teachers Day) was celebrated at Central Normal.  All our children joined our local MP Iain Lees Galloway in the hall for a massed ‘Hands Up to Learning’.

Thank you to our dedicated hardworking teachers.  They absolutely care for our children and their learning.

PIRLS testing for year 5 children

Our school has been chosen for this international study trial of year 5 children.  Mrs Cameron undertook the testing with our year 5’s on Wednesday.

Horticulture Centre

Thank you to all the wonderful families helping in our Garden to Table programme.  We would love our garden to be cared for over the holidays.  We have one offer already but hope others can help share this.  Please see Mrs Scott if you are able to help.

Congratulations to Kerry Howard

Kerry was invited to present a lecture at an Autism Conference in Wellington.  Kerry’s skills and knowledge in this specialised area is much sort after.

Art Display at Convention Centre

We hope you took the opportunity last weekend to visit the Art Display.  We now have some of the fabulous work our children produced on display in the Administration Area.  Do come in and have a look.  Our school offers many opportunities to develop talents and skills in many areas.

Yummy Stickers

Thank you for continuing to collect the stickers off your apples and the vouchers off the bags.  We are delighted to inform you that we now have $576 to spend on Champs sports gear.  This is a huge benefit to all our children and a saving to our budget!

Family Fun Run & Relay

Look out for the entry forms TOMORROW.  This is the P.T.A.’s major fundraiser for the year.  We want to make it a huge success.

Cricket and Touch

We are still waiting to get under way with the Cricket and Touch seasons.  Sadly the weather forecasts are not looking to promising for this week either.  All cancellations will be made through the school speaker system and on 90.6 and 92.2FM radio stations.

This year we will be posting all draws on the sports window at the back of Room 13 and 14.  This faces out towards the netball courts.  We are hoping that we will have all draws available before Wednesday 3pm but this is dependent on the Associations getting them out to us on time.

Sun Hats

Please support our sun safe policy by ensuring your child has a Central Normal School Sun Hat.

Remember children should not wear string tops/singlet tops to school. We want to protect our children from sunburn.

Doodle 4 Google

Last term a number of our children entered this competition – their work was on display at the office.  We are delighted that Angela Agac-Ac

Room 4 was a finalist.  Congratulations’ Angela!

Te Kohanga Reo O Te Ao Marama 25th Birthday Celebration 30th October.

Last Friday, Whaea Jonella, Pa Ronald and a small group of Te Arawaru students attended the 25th birthday of Te Kohanga o Te Ao Marama.  The children who attended are all ex students of the Kohanga and it was especially pleasing to hear the comments of the staff and parents regarding the behaviour of our children.  They were courteous and helpful showing what wonderful children we have at Central Normal.

Ucol Sports

Thank you to Ucol for the great sports sessions last week at the Stadium.  The children from Matanginui participated all enjoyed the experience.

Little Turtle by Stanton Harrison Room 1

Room 1 has a little turtle in the tank.  Little Turtle is her name.  She swims in the water.  She goes up to the platform and dives into the water. (Great writing Stanton)

Lost Property

Our bins are overflowing!  We hope to display the assortment of clothing and shoes TOMORROW if it is a dry day!  Please come and look for your child’s belongings.

Plastic Supermarket Bags

If you have spare supermarket bags you no longer require we would be grateful for a supply for use in the staffroom and office.

Spare clothing for children who get wet/dirty

If you are cleaning out cupboards and have items of clothing (particularly shorts/trackpants) that no longer fit your children we would love some donations for our supply which has seriously dwindled lately.

ICAS English and Maths Exams 2009.

The results of the ICAS English and Maths exams have arrived. Our children performed really well with a large number gaining a credit pass. Congratulations to them all. Special congratulations to Anna Reynolds who achieved a high distinction and Shannen Petersen and Catherine Reynolds who achieved distinction, all in English.  In Maths, David Peck and William Kilty achieved distinctions. These scores place them among the highest achievers in the New Zealand. This is really exciting.
