Dear Parents,

Welcome to Litahliana, Kali, Nia, Skyla, Anne-Marie and John, we know you will all enjoy being part of the Central Normal family.

Thank you so much to everyone who came to the recent parent conferences. We really enjoyed this quality time together. If for some reason you were unable to attend please make contact with your child’s teacher and make another suitable time for a conference.  It is important for you and your child to be able to keep up with progress and ways that parents are able to support children’s learning at home.

To Te Arawaru parents thank you for keeping your children at home on Monday – this proved to be a most valuable day for the Te Arawaru staff. They had a day of quality time to work on the new Te Marautanga o Aotearoa.

Health Issues for your attention:

Measles outbreaks – This message is from the Ministry of Health

Measles is a highly infectious notifiable disease which can have serious complications.  It is important to stop the spread of measles.  If your child is not immunised and you suspect your child has measles it is important to keep your child at home, and inform the school immediately.  Doctors can immunise your child to increase coverage and prevent a serious out break. What you can do to help the school?

Inform us of measles – this is a notifiable disease. We need to let the Ministry of Health know too.

Scabies

Scabies is a raised, itchy rash caused by a small burrowing insect.  The rash is found mainly on the upper body, hands and legs. If you suspect your child has scabies please see your family doctor or chemist for treatment and follow the instructions carefully.

Children’s writing

We have some wonderful writers at our school.  Here is one – “Molly’s Trout”

by Molly Room 1

Last January my family and I went to Lake Tarawera.  Daddy bought a fishing license so we could fish for trout for our tea.  Every single night Daddy tried to catch a trout but he didn’t get any.  Early one morning Dad and Uncle Stu took me and my friend Stephanie fishing on Lake Tarawera.  I wore a cool red and blue life jacket to keep me safe on the boat.  Stephanie and I caught a trout almost straight away! Dad and Uncle Stu were really happy for us but they were pretty annoyed that they still hadn’t caught anything! When we got back to shore, everyone was really impressed with my trout and said “it’s a beauty  my trout weighed 1.9 kilos and it was delicious!

Actions Speak Louder Than Words

When I walked into the doors of the hall, I saw all the drums. We found out that drumming is good fun but can hurt your hand after a while because we were drumming for 1 whole hour!

Rhythm Interactive did a show with us on Tuesday.  It wasn’t like any other show we had even seen.  When we were drumming, everyone got involved in the drumming and followed the man even if it was fast or if it was really slow. He didn’t talk at all, just used his hands and face and whole body language to show us what to do.  He was really good!

There seemed to be thousands of different rhythms, loud, soft, fast and slow. We made it

sound good with different sounds on the same drum. To make a loud sound, we hit in the  middle and to make it soft, we hit it on the sides.

A big thank you to the P.T.A. for funding this excellent experience for our senior children.
