Staffing – Deputy Principal Appointed for 2010.

The Board of Trustees has appointed Jan Thomas to the position Deputy Principal beginning Term 1 2010. Jan is presently Deputy Principal at Coley Street School Foxton. We will be delighted to have Jan join our school family. She will come to our school with much experience.

Toys & Cell Phones

We are aware that a number of children are bringing toys and cell phones to school.  Parents are reminded of the policy which states Cell Phones are to be left at the school office if it is necessary to bring a phone to school for some reason.  Toys are best left at home as they often ‘go missing’.  If a child wishes to show a new toy to a class it is best taken home by the parent after the ‘show and tell’.

Sports News:

Thank you to all coaches, managers and supporters who supported our students with the Winter Sports this year.  We all appreciate the time and effort that you have put in over the cold winter months.

We are eagerly looking forward to the touch, cricket and summer hockey season.  At present we have more children registered than in previous years.  If you have not yet paid your child’s summer sports fees please ensure you do so before the end of the term.  We can only register players who have paid their fees before this time.

We would appreciate all winter sports teams gear bags, tops and equipment back to school as soon as possible so we can redistribute for the summer sport season.

Central Heat Basketball Team Report. The team played extremely well in their competition reaching the semi finals which they lost in extra time.  Well done to Tupea, Samuel -, Te Ariki, Juan, Tiaki, Tamahau -, Philip, and Nathan.  A big thank you to Stacey Lambert Coach – we cannot support our children with out parent help!

Relay for School

A family fun day is being organised by the P.T.A.  This will be on Sunday 22nd November from 10.00a.m. to 2.00p.m.  Keep this day free!!

You are able to make up your own team of family and friends to walk or run in relay around the school track to help raise money for new playground equipment.

You may need to start practising for this event so spring is a good time to take your children with you and get outside and begin walking or running to build up your fitness. Be ready for this big fun day.  We are grateful for the support of Sport Manawatu with the organisation of this event.

Long Hair and Nits

If your child has long hair PLEASE ensure it is tied back when coming to school.  This helps with the spread of headlice and nits which are causing concern.

Please keep checking your children over the holidays and treat them when necessary.  It would be great to start Term 4 ‘NIT FREE’.  Remember

we do have various treatments available at the office at cost price or you can borrow a nit comb for a deposit of $5.00 refundable when the comb is returned.

Religious Education

Thank you to everyone who responded to our questions about Religious Education. We had some very thoughtful responses and we appreciated them.

The Board of Trustees has decided to continue with it in its present form for now.  The sheet attached is for your reference with the outcomes on the back.

Lost Property

If the day is dry TOMORROW we will display the clothing shoes etc outside the staffroom.  Please come in and collect your child’s belongings.  Any clothing left will be sent to a charity.

Newsletter Sponsors

We are looking at changing our newsletter for 2010.  If you have a business and would like to be a feature advertiser in an issue of our 2010 newsletter please contact the school office.  We would give you a space on the front of the newsletter to promote your business for a cost of $50.00.  Our newsletter goes out to around 400 homes.

40 Hour Famine – message from Michelle

Here is an example of how far the money raised by Central Normal children will go. The funds go to Bangladesh, where many people have been affected by the Global Food Crisis.  Famine funds will be providing emergency feeding for mothers and children who are suffering malnutrition.  The $1487.50 raised at Central Normal could provide 6 months of emergency feeding to 609 children and 356 mothers.  This is a total of 965 people that could be impacted with Central Normal’s efforts.  This is a truly amazing effort, and on behalf of World Vision I’d like to say a huge thank you to all those involved.

School Parking Friendly Reminder from PNCC:

Please be advised that due to public concerns and an increase in complaints from residents and car park users, the PNCC Parking Enforcement Division have been and will continue to monitor school areas on a regular basis.  This is to ensure drivers that breach requirements such as time restrictions and non compliance of road markings, stationary vehicles on broken yellow lines etc, are monitored to ensure public safety (especially for our youth).

We would like your co-operation in ensuring drivers around your school are complying with the Traffic Regulation Rules regarding clearways, no stopping (time compliance), yellow lines, footpaths, grass verge/berms, parking within 1 metre of vehicle entrances, road marked spaces and where time restrictions are in place.  To minimise the risk of an infringement notice (parking ticket) being issued, please be considerate and adhere to road user rules.  Compliance will ensure public safety for our community.

Please refer to the Palmerston North Traffic and Parking Bylaw 2004, The Land Transport Act 1998 and Traffic Regulations 1976, for general traffic rules and signs.  Alternatively you can visit the following websites:  www.pncc.govt.nz or www.ltsa.govt.nz Remember traffic tickets start from $40 and increase upwards!!

Garden to Table with Room 22

Over the last 5 Wednesday mornings Room 22 have been part of the Garden to Table Programme (with Penny Clothier).  We have been busy weeding and planting in our school garden.  We cooked hamburgers, pizzas, sticky buns, muffins and lots more!  We want to say a big thank you to all of the wonderful   parents who helped us each week.

Finally…I am so proud of our children and the great term they have had. They continue to blow us away with what they achieve and the confidence they develop. They are very willing to try new learning.

Our children are very happy special young New Zealanders. We hope they all have a happy and well deserved holiday.

See you next term.
