The Palmerston North Contributing Schools Interschool Athletics meeting was held on Tuesday 8th December at Massey University Athletics Facility.  The Central Normal School team had great success with Maia and Daniel both winners in the boys and girls shot put, and Ethan winner of the boys long jump.  We had team members competing in some very tight finals with the track events.  Well done everyone  - what a great team.

I liked the presents you got me last year. Can you get me a remote control shark. I will leave some cookies and some milk and carrots. The carrots and water are for Rudolph and the reindeer too and the cookies and the milk are for you.  I will leave the TV playing and a blanket on the couch so you can have a break if you want to. – From Sonte

Memories of Farmers Cave

By Selena Room 7

Yes!  Today we are going to Santa’s cave.  My sister Tiriata was a little bit shy to talk to Santa Claus but Santa’s tummy wasn’t big so Santa must of lost some weight.  My sister asked for a scooter because her scooter broke.  I asked for a little pet shop because they are fun to play with.  When we went in we looked at the puppets.  They were moving and I looked at one.  That puppet was building a house for Santa.  My sister Tiriata wanted to go on the merry go round.  The big kids that went on had to pedal while the little kids sat back and relaxed.  After that we watched the monkeys playing

the guitar and one was playing the drums.

A message from Murray McDonald Chair of the Board of Trustees.

Dear Parents, Caregivers and school community.

A main focus for the board this year has been the appointment of our Assistant Principal Trevor Saunders and our new Deputy Principal Jan Thomas, who will replace Cath Cameron at the beginning of next year. Cath has made a big contribution to the Board over the past 10 years.  Her experience with Education Review Office was of great value to the board in relation to school policy. Cath your contributions will be greatly missed at our meetings.

More recently we are very pleased to have three new parent representatives on the board which brings a good broad base of experience and support for our children.

The end of the school year is when we, as a board of trustees, get to hear the reports of our childrens’ achievement in literacy and numeracy school wide.  This is the opportunity for us to see the improvements from testing that occurred at the beginning of the year.  I can assure you that very definite progress is being made by our children which is a reflection on the specific programmes and reviews that are implemented by the teaching staff at Central Normal School.

Thank you to all staff and to the board of trustees for their time and commitment to ensuring the continued support of our childrens’ learning.

To all our school community have a happy and safe holiday time.

Finally

As my first year as Principal of Central Normal School draws to a close I would like to thank everyone for making it so positive.  A huge thank you to our P.T.A.  This is a special group of parents who work in so many ways to make our school special.

I would like to thank Murray and the Board for their wonderful leadership of our school.  We have an excellent Board who make very good decisions for us.

We have a wonderful staff at Central Normal School.  I would publically like to acknowledge and thank each and everyone of them for their commitment t6o our children and their learning.

Finally – to our stunning children.  You have worked so hard this year.  It has been a busy and happy 2009.  You all deserve a great holiday.

Take care everyone.

Have a happy and safe holiday – See you in 2010.
