Less than three weeks to go for the school year of 2008!  We all want this time to be busy, positive and a happy time for all as we lead up to Christmas.  Please support your child/ren and the school to make this the reality.

We have been pleased to welcome Riley, Jahlia and Oshana. We know that you will enjoy your learning and Central Normal.

Teachers appointed:

Shelley Mitchell and  Nadell Karatea Kokiri  permanent  to staff,      and  fixed term -  Maryanne Mamone,   Glenys Shore,   Melissa Van Echten,   Raechel Filiata,  Tiya Blake  and Cara Ferrar.    We feel certain that these teachers will add much to the on going development of the children and the school next year.

The roll:  The numbers remain high.  Again we ask parents and friends of the school that if they know of children ‘in zone’ and wishing to attend Central Normal in the first half of next year to come in and enrol.

Please be reminded of the following:

·         At Central Normal School, we value good sportsmanship, and we must have good role models from parents and others who come to support. All need to accept the  results as given by adults who are judging.  We acknowledge that we are not experts but we do the very best that we can for the children.

·         We encourage fairness and good sportsmanship, this includes encouraging each other and supporting all achievements, both large and small.

·         We promote good competition and achieving the best that we can. We expect all children to do the best that they can, and be a good competitor to other children.

·         We acknowledge effort as well as achievement.  The winners are special, as are those who try and achieve beyond their usual limits.

Road Patrol Training 9a.m. – 12 noon Monday 1st December

All parents who have volunteered to support our safety programme are invited to come to some part of the training during the morning.  If you are unable to come please let Mrs Cameron know.

Good bye Mr Smith

An invitation is extended to all the school community to come to school on Friday 12 from 3:30 to 6 p.m. to enjoy family time with our retiring principal Allister Smith.  Sausages ($1.00) Drinks ($2.00) and Chippies ($1.00) will be available. Bring your own food if you would like.  The pool will be open for children to have a swim.

Sun Safe

As the weather warms up we enforce our sun safe policy of always wearing sunhats and wearing appropriate clothing.  Our policy states that children will not wear singlet or shoestring type tops.  This is especially important at the moment as children are outside practising athletics and at sports days.

Year 6 Graduation Wednesday 10th December, Speirs Centre, Palmerston North Boys High School.

Lost Property

Each Friday if it is fine and dry the lost clothing, shoes etc will be on display outside the staffroom.  Please come and collect any of your families belongings.

Headlice

We are very concerned about the numbers of children attending school with untreated hair.  PLEASE do your bit and keep a check on your child/ren and treat as necessary.  We have available organic shampoo which can be purchased from the school office for $13/bottle if required.

Hot Dog Lunches

There will be no further hot dogs this term.  A special thank you to the willing parents who have helped with preparation on Wednesdays and Fridays.

Parking Safely and with consideration!

Our neighbouring businesses support our school and we are distressed to learn that parents are parking on driveways of neighbouring businesses.  Please do not do this as we are very disappointed to be phoned by them with complaints about our school parents!!

I am Me By Alexia Room 14 Y6

I am curious and committed

I wonder how the world and life began

I hear the sound of birds singing in the refreshing moonlight

I see sparkles of dust and a billion colours in the dark, stillness of the night

I want to feel the wind through my hair as a swoop through the blue sky

I am curious and committed

I pretend to be a lion, running on the hard ground, far away from all my worries

I feel overwhelmed by the emptiness in strife and the happiness of life, all at the same time

I touch diamonds in people’s hearts and storm clouds in their lives

I worry about strife and cannot forget the tears in the eyes of those I love

I cry for those that ache and those that inspire

I am curious and committed

I understand that life has its ups and downs

I say be who you want to be, not what others want to see

I dream of soaring in the sky, high above the clouds, avoiding those who try to pull me down

I try to achieve my goals and overcome my fears

I hope for happiness and have faith for the peace that’s still to come

I am curious and committed……I am me!!!

Sun - Madisyn Room 7

The sun is a yellow flaming lollipop.

It looks like a big golden baseball.

Dinosaur by Alex Room 19

Once there was a Dinosaur called Jack.  He had sharp claws.  He was big.  He had plates on his back and a spiky tail.  He had bumpy skin.  Jack was gentle.  He was a meat-eater.  He lived in a cave.  It was very, very dark.  The cave was big and very very deep.  Jack was trapped in the cave because rocks fell down and blocked the entrance.  Jack was stuck in the cave for ever.  He died there.

Dinosaur by Alex Room 19

Once there was a big Dinosaur called Robert who was the King of all the Dinosaurs.  He had blue scales and he had a very loud roar.  He lived in a dungeon.  His bed was made out of rock but one day Robert escaped.  Robert was running very fast.  He couldn’t see what was in front of him.  On the grass there was a treasure chest, it was brown and sparkly.  It was full of treasure.  Robert shared it with all of the Dinosaurs.  They were very happy.  Everyone loved the King.  They had a feast, they has lots of leaves and lots of meat.  They had the happiest day of their lives.

Thought for the month, - to consider: A question to consider!

Are kind words,  -  smiling faces, -  doing things together,   more important than expensive presents?
