Our show will be is a fascinating look at the diverse people and cultures that make our country such a stunning place to live.  Join us on our journey, where we will take a look at the unique people, our achievements, and our way of life.  Sit back and relax as each team presents a snapshot of life in Aotearoa New Zealand.

P.T.A. Family Pie Orders

Have you sent in your order for the yummy family pies that the P.T.A. is offering as a fundraiser?  We need to have all orders in by Tuesday 10th August.  Money raised from this fundraiser will go toward wet weather (inside) games for classrooms.

Class Photos

The proofs have arrived, and are on display in your child’s classroom.  Please come in and look at the photo and check that your child’s name is spelt correctly.  Envelopes are available for ordering.  The cost of a photo is $12.00.  Orders will close on Tuesday 31st August.  Cash only in the envelope please.

Recycling Bins

Room 5 children have written to the Palmerston North City Council because the Board of Trustees has been asked to pay $145 per wheelie bin to enable the school to continue to recycle.

Well done Room 5.

This is a copy of one of the letters we have sent.  :

Dear City Council,

Can we please have some orange and black rubbish bins.  We really need some bins so we can recycle our rubbish.  But the problem is that we need about 5 or 4 and it costs  a lot of money and we need to buy books and much more.  So if we could or can we please get it for a much cheaper price.  Then if we get them our school will be nice and tidy.

From Caniece Room 5.

Come and read more letters on display in the foyer.

Supermarket Bags – can you help us?

Do you have a pile of these that you do not need?  We would love a supply ready to sort the PTA pie orders when they arrive next week.

Flu & sick children

If your child has flu like symptoms please keep him/her at home.  Sending unwell children to school is unfair to other children and staff...  Flu is very easily spread by coughing and sneezing.  Please encourage your child/ren to wash hands thoroughly also not to cough or sneeze over others!

The Book and Biscuit Club recently wrote an obituary for a well known book character

The Very Hungry Caterpillar – by Jimmy Room 1.

The very hungry caterpillar died aged 9 days old.  Born on Sunday 1st July he died on Sunday 8th July.  He achieved nothing in his life because he ate too much food.  There was no funeral.

Goldilocks by Ebeney Room 1

Aged 8 she died from a tree falling on her on her way back from the 3 bears house.  She attended a little school in town.  Her funeral was held in the forest at the food of a tree.  Only the 3 bears came as they felt sorry for her.  The rest ran away.

Children turning 5 in Term 4 and 2011

We would appreciate some idea of how many children in our area are due to turn 5 during term 4 and in 2011.  This is very important for our planning for next year.  Please come in and bring a birth certificate with you to enrol your child who is due to turn 5.  If you are aware of any neighbours or friends intending to enrol their children at Central Normal Please encourage them to get in touch with us as soon as they are able.

Congratulations

Ryan Room 8 participated in the Manawatu and Wanganui Performing Arts Competitions during the holidays.  He obtained awards in Test Poem, Own Selection Verse and Reading from a Set Book.  Well done Ryan!

Exercise Books/Stationery

We are starting to think about ordering all of the exercise books for next year.  We had so much positive feedback about how we organised it this year – so we would love to do this again next year.  Sadly – we may not do this again.  We have been let down by some parents not paying for their child’s exercise books. Another invoice will be sent out before the end of term. We will make a final decision at the beginning of next term about the stationery for 2011.

School Donation

We have recently sent home reminders for outstanding school donations.  It would be a great help to the Board of Trustees if families made an effort to pay. The school donation money is used to help and support a number of additional activities such as visiting artists, and additional programmes to assist with giving our children the best learning opportunities during their school year.
