At Central Normal School, we believe that the active and authentic involvement of students in their learning is crucial to engagement and achievement.
Students actively drive WISE within the school.
We believe that students are the heart of Central Normal School and actively seek student voice to make OUR school a great learning environment.
We offer quality teaching and learning by providing diversity and variety throughout our teaching teams. Each team provides stimulating and exciting learning opportunities for students making use of modern learning environments and ICT.
At Central Normal School classrooms are colourful, organised and reflect children’s learning.

Central Normal School is a vibrant learning environment where we encourage whanau to share all learning with their tamariki. There are regular events that enable students to demonstrate their increasing understanding across all curriculum areas.

Through media reports and the Ministry of Education, we have been made aware of an online "challenge" called the Momo Challenge. A recent article from the NZ Herald outlines more about this challenge: NZ Herald article.
Should your child mention the Momo Challenge to you, PLEASE listen to their concerns and support them. If required, seek further professional support.
Some tips to use to help your child:
- keep devices out of the bedroom
- monitor what your children are watching
- if they share something with you about what they have seen online that scares them calmly support them and, if necessary, report the website to NZ Police and/or Netsafe.
I have just recently been in contact with leading NZ online safety expert, John Parsons, and he endorses the above advice, especially about being available to listen to your child.
Please also see the following information from Netsafe New Zealand: Click here.
As always, as a school, we are here to listen to and support you also.
